What these cover

This page, and the rest of teispace.com. Reading the site means these apply to you; that is the whole of the agreement between us until there is a signed one.

They do not govern work we do for you. That is a contract we both sign, it says what it says, and nothing on this page overrides it or fills a gap in it. The same goes for a job application: what happens to it is described in the privacy policy and in the role itself, not here.

Using the site

Read it, quote it, link to it, send it to a colleague. Quote it with attribution and a link and you never need to ask us; that is what it is for.

What we would ask you not to do: republish whole articles as if they were yours, present the site or anything on it as somebody else's work, or crawl it hard enough to degrade it for other people. Automated access is fine and welcome — our own robots file invites it — at a rate that a person browsing would not notice.

What is ours, and what is not

The writing, the design, the drawings and the code behind this site are ours. So is the name and the mark.

Our open-source packages are not covered by this page at all. Everything we publish on npm and pub.dev carries its own licence in its own repository, and that licence is the only thing that governs it. Nothing here narrows it, and if the two ever appear to disagree, the licence wins.

Client names, logos and product names belong to those clients and appear here with their agreement. Where an engagement is described without naming anyone, that is deliberate and it is not an invitation to guess.

What the writing is, and is not

The technical writing describes what we built, what broke, and what we changed. It is a record of our own work on our own systems. It is not advice about yours: the same change on a different system, at a different scale, with different constraints, may be the wrong change.

We do not publish a measurement we have not taken. Where a piece would have been stronger with a benchmark we have not run, it says so instead of estimating. That is a rule we hold ourselves to rather than a promise about outcomes — nothing here is a guarantee that a technique will work for you.

If you send us something

An enquiry, an application, a proposal, an idea. Two things are worth being plain about, because most sites are plain about only the first.

We do not treat unsolicited material as confidential unless we have agreed to. If what you want to describe is genuinely sensitive, ask before you send it and we will sign an NDA first — we do that routinely and often before the first conversation. Sending it unasked cannot create an obligation we did not know we were taking on.

And we do not claim your idea. Describing a project to us gives us no right to build it for somebody else, and nothing on this page transfers anything you send. If we cannot help, we say so and that is the end of it.

What we do not promise about the site

That it will always be up, that every link will still resolve, or that everything on it is current. It is a marketing site and a set of notes, maintained carefully and not operated as a service anyone should depend on.

Links to other sites are links, not endorsements. Once you follow one, that site's terms and its privacy policy apply and ours stop.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from using this site or relying on something written on it. Where the law does not allow that — and in several countries it does not, particularly for death, personal injury or fraud — this paragraph does not apply and we are not trying to make it.

Changes

We will change this page when the site changes. The date at the top is when we last did, and it is a real date rather than one that updates itself on every deploy. There is no version history published; if you need to know what it said on a particular day, ask and we will tell you.

Which law applies

The law of Nepal applies to these terms and to anything arising from them, and the courts of Kaski District are where a dispute would be heard. That follows from where Teispace is and where the work is done.

If you are a consumer in a country whose law gives you the right to bring a claim locally, that right is yours regardless of this paragraph.
