Privacy policy

The short version

This site has no accounts, no database and no server that receives anything you type. The two forms on it — the enquiry form and the job application — build an email in your own mail app and hand it to you; nothing is submitted to us until you press send in your own client.

The only thing we measure is how many people read which pages, and only if you agree to it. We do not sell data, run advertising, or share anything with anyone for their own purposes.

Who is responsible

Teispace, Pokhara, Nepal, is responsible for this site and for anything you send us. If you have a question about your data, or want us to delete something you have sent, write to info@teispace.com and a person will answer it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count page views and see which writing is worth doing more of. What it does before you have said anything depends on where you are, and we would rather set that out plainly than bury it.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it starts switched off. Until you accept, it sets no cookie and cannot identify you or recognise you on a later visit. That is what the law there requires and we are not looking for a way around it.

Everywhere else it starts switched on, because opt-in consent for counting page views is not required there. The banner still appears, and declining switches it off and keeps it off — we would rather everyone had a visible way to stop it than only the people whose law insists.

Either way, advertising storage stays denied for everyone, everywhere. We run no advertising, we have not enabled Google Signals or remarketing on the property, and asking for storage we would not use would be collecting for the sake of it.

When analytics is off, Google still receives a page view, and we would rather say so than let you find out. It carries no cookie and nothing that survives it: the identifier on one of these is generated fresh for each ping and thrown away, so two of them cannot be recognised as the same person. Switching analytics off makes you uncountable as an individual rather than invisible as a visit. When it is on, Google sets a first-party cookie so repeat visits can be joined up.

If you accept and later decline, we delete that cookie there and then rather than leaving it to expire on its own. Withdrawing permission and being left carrying the identifier it granted is not much of a withdrawal.

We have not enabled advertising features, remarketing, or Google Signals on the property, so nothing collected here follows you to another site.

Your answer is kept in your browser's own storage under the key used by the banner, for 365 days, and then you are asked again. It is not a cookie and it is never sent to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser storage for this site removes it.

Hosting

The site runs on a server we rent and administer ourselves, in Oracle Cloud's Mumbai region. Like every web server it keeps short-lived request logs — an IP address, a browser string, the page requested. They exist to keep the site up and to stop abuse, and we do not use them to build any picture of a visitor.

In front of it is Cloudflare, which serves the site's cached pages from whichever of its locations is nearest you and terminates the encrypted connection. That means every request reaches Cloudflare before it reaches us, and Cloudflare keeps its own logs of them for a short period. We use it for speed and to absorb attacks, not for anything to do with tracking, and none of its analytics or bot-scoring products that would profile a visitor are switched on.

What we hold when you write to us

Whatever is in the email you send: your name, your address, and what you told us about your project or your application. It sits in our mail, is read by a person, and is used to answer you and to do the work if we end up doing it.

Applications are kept while the role is open and for a reasonable period after, in case something closer comes up. Ask us to delete yours and we will, without asking why.

What this site does not do

It sets no advertising cookies and carries no third-party trackers, pixels or social widgets. Fonts are served from this domain rather than from Google, so viewing a page makes no request to a font provider. There are no embedded videos, no chat widgets, and no session recording of any kind.

Links out to GitHub, LinkedIn, npm and the other sites in the footer are ordinary links; once you follow one, that site's own policy applies and this one no longer does.

Why we are allowed to hold any of it

Analytics in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland only because you agreed to it, and only for as long as that agreement stands. Elsewhere, because counting page views on our own site is a legitimate interest and the law there does not require asking first — but you can still say no, and if you do there is no fallback we quietly fall back to.

Hosting logs exist because a server that keeps none cannot be defended or debugged. What you send us we hold because you asked us to answer it, and because we cannot do work for you without a record of what you asked for.

Where it goes

Three places outside Nepal, all named above. Google, if analytics is on for you. Cloudflare, which every request passes through, and which serves European visitors from European locations. Oracle, whose Mumbai region the server sits in — so the site's own logs are held in India, not in the United States.

Google and Cloudflare are US companies and handle data in the United States and elsewhere, under the standard contractual clauses that make that lawful for visitors in the UK and the EU.

Your email goes wherever our mail is hosted and no further. We do not pass enquiries to partners, resellers or lead brokers, and there is no arrangement under which anyone pays us for them.

How long it is kept

Analytics is set to expire after fourteen months, which is Google's shortest option beyond the current session. Hosting logs are short-lived and not ours to extend. Correspondence stays until it stops being useful — an enquiry that went nowhere is not an archive worth keeping, and asking us to delete one is a sentence, not a process.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to info@teispace.com. There is no form and no process — it reaches a person, and we would rather answer it than make you chase it.

You can change your mind about analytics at any time by clearing this site's storage in your browser, which brings the banner back.

If you are in the UK or the EU you have these rights under the GDPR, along with the right to object to processing, to ask for your data in a portable form, and to complain to your national data protection authority if you think we have got something wrong. We would rather you told us first, but the right exists whether or not you use it.
